Naive Art

Vojvodinian naive artists Slovak origin

The collection of the finest paintings from the Slovak enclave in Vojvodina - Kovacica (Serbia ) from the 1960s. Martin Jonas , Zuzana Chalupova , Michal Bires, Jan Garaj, Jan Knazovic and other artists drew on everyday life and festive occasions in the Banatian village. The central feature of Kovacica painting is figuration expressed in simplified and stylised forms, as well as a strong feeling of detail. Their common feature is the narrative understanding of the picture. The protagonists share the use of a lively scale of picturesque "Slovak" local colour.
